SAO hosts back-to-school cookout, Bates announces youth art contest

Community event to provide free food, school supplies, and fun activities

The San Antonio Office (SAO) will host a back-to-school cookout and school supply giveaway on Saturday, August 20, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the SAO headquarters, located at 1110 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78215.

Bates announces youth art contest

In related news, Councilwoman Teri Castillo Bates is sponsoring a youth art contest for students in grades K-12. The contest theme is "My San Antonio" and submissions can include paintings, drawings, collages, sculptures, and mixed media pieces. The deadline to submit artwork is September 15, 2023.

Back-to-school cookout and school supply giveaway details

The SAO's back-to-school cookout will provide free food, school supplies, and fun activities for children and families. The event is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.

The cookout will feature hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, drinks, and other snacks. There will also be a variety of school supplies available, including backpacks, pencils, pens, paper, and notebooks.

In addition to the food and supplies, there will also be a number of fun activities for children, including face painting, balloon animals, and games.

Youth art contest details

The youth art contest is open to all students in grades K-12 who reside in the City of San Antonio. Artwork can be submitted to any of the following locations:

• Councilwoman Teri Castillo Bates' office, located at 2139 Babcock Road, San Antonio, TX 78229
• The Carver Community Cultural Center, located at 226 North Hackberry Street, San Antonio, TX 78202
• The San Antonio Public Library Central Branch, located at 101 North St. Mary's Street, San Antonio, TX 78205

The deadline to submit artwork is September 15, 2023. All submissions will be judged by a panel of local artists and educators. The winners will be announced at a special ceremony on October 1, 2023.
