Im Not That Old Says Handre Pollard Ahead Of Argentina Test

‘I’m not that old,’ says Handre Pollard ahead of Argentina Test

South Africa captain confident he still has plenty to offer despite being the second-oldest player in the squad

Pollard will lead the Springboks against Argentina in Durban on Saturday

Handre Pollard insists he is not yet over the hill despite being the second-oldest player in the South Africa squad to face Argentina in Durban on Saturday.

The 29-year-old fly-half has been a key figure for the Springboks since making his debut in 2014, but his place in the team has come under scrutiny in recent months following a string of poor performances.

However, Pollard is adamant that he still has plenty to offer and is determined to prove his worth against the Pumas.

"I'm not that old," Pollard said. "I'm still only 29. I feel like I'm in the prime of my career and I still have a lot to offer this team.

"I know there have been some questions about my form, but I'm confident that I can still play at the highest level.

"I'm excited about the challenge of facing Argentina. They're a tough team, but we're confident that we can get the win."

Pollard will be hoping to lead the Springboks to a victory that would keep their Rugby Championship title hopes alive.

The world champions are currently third in the standings, behind New Zealand and Australia.

A win over Argentina would give them a chance of finishing the tournament in second place, which would be a creditable achievement given the challenges they have faced this year.

Pollard is one of several experienced players in the Springboks squad, along with the likes of Eben Etzebeth, Siya Kolisi and Faf de Klerk.

The fly-half believes that the team's experience will be a major asset against Argentina.

"We have a lot of experienced players in our team," Pollard said. "That's a big advantage for us, especially in a tough game like this.

"We know what it takes to win at the highest level. We're confident that we can get the job done."
