Early Life and Education
Catherine Marie-Agnès de Saint Phalle, known as Niki de Saint Phalle, was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France on October 29, 1930. Her father was French, and her mother was American. Saint Phalle's family moved to the United States when she was young, and she grew up in New York City.
Artistic Practice
Saint Phalle began her artistic career in the late 1950s after she traveled to Europe. She initially worked with painting and assemblage but later expanded her practice to include sculpture, performance art, and film.
